IoT, BLE and wearable app development

Companion apps for Bluetooth Low Energy devices and wearables: reliable pairing, background sync, and over-the-air updates.

What it is

IoT app development connects a mobile or web app to physical devices, most often over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for wearables and consumer hardware, or through a cloud platform for connected equipment. The hard parts are reliability, not screens: pairing that works first time, data sync that survives the app being closed, and firmware updates that never brick a device. Our founder has built BLE smartwatch apps in Swift and knows where these projects typically go wrong.

Outcomes

What changes for your business

Pairing that just works

Robust discovery, bonding, and reconnection logic, tested across phone models and OS versions.

Data you can rely on

Background sync with retries and de-duplication so health, activity, or sensor data is never silently lost.

Safe updates in the field

Over-the-air firmware updates with verification and rollback paths.

What we build

Typical iot, ble and wearable apps projects

Smartwatch and wearable companion apps

Activity, health, and notification features over BLE, with HealthKit and Health Connect integration.

Connected-device apps

Control and monitoring apps for consumer and industrial devices.

Device cloud and dashboards

Ingestion, storage, and web dashboards for fleet data, with alerting.

AI on device data

Anomaly detection and plain-language summaries of sensor data for users and operators.

Approach

How we deliver it

This sits inside our standard delivery process: weekly demos, a shared board, and monthly reporting.

Technology

  • Swift & CoreBluetooth
  • Flutter BLE plugins
  • Kotlin BLE
  • HealthKit & Health Connect
  • MQTT
  • AWS IoT / Azure IoT
  • Time-series databases
  1. Review the device protocol (GATT profile), firmware constraints, and test hardware.

  2. Build a protocol layer with a device simulator so app work is not blocked on hardware.

  3. Harden connection lifecycle: background modes, reconnection, and battery impact.

  4. Test on a device matrix, including older phones and poor radio conditions.

  5. Instrument field telemetry so issues are visible after launch.

Two ways to engage

IoT, BLE and wearable apps: frequently asked questions

Do you work with our existing hardware and firmware team?

Yes. Most IoT projects involve a separate firmware team. We agree the BLE protocol with them early and build a simulator so both sides can work in parallel.

Why do BLE apps disconnect so often?

Usually because of connection lifecycle issues: background restrictions, missing reconnection logic, or bonding problems on specific phone models. These are solvable with deliberate engineering and device testing.

Can you build for both iOS and Android?

Yes, either in Flutter with native BLE modules where needed, or fully native when the device protocol is complex.
